Kalimord was gone.

Its cities had been rebuilt by foreign powers. Its banners had been burned. Its history was taught as a warning, and the children of Ambroid grew up believing the old tyrants and their gods had vanished together.

For decades, nothing seemed to contradict that belief.

Yet, from time to time, strange things surfaced.

A farmer in a remote valley left fresh meat on an ancient stone every new moon, though he could not explain why. An elderly woman whispered forgotten prayers before sleeping, claiming they had been taught to her by a grandmother who refused to speak of the old days. A miner, trapped beneath the earth, carved an unfamiliar symbol into the rock with bleeding fingers before he died. None of them knew one another. None belonged to any movement.

The habits simply survived.

Like weeds growing through cracked stone, fragments of the old faith endured in scattered corners of Ambroid. A whispered phrase. A hidden carving beneath a floorboard. A candle lit in an abandoned cellar. A traveler who refused to cross a certain hill after sunset because "something still listens there."

No one preached.

No one recruited.

Those who remembered understood that speaking openly invited prison—or worse. The old gods had taught patience long before Kalimord ever existed. A single believer could pass a ritual to one child, who might pass half of it to another decades later. Most of the traditions became distorted over generations, their meanings forgotten even by those who practiced them.

The Peasant Revolt and the Birth of the People's Republic of Kalimord

For generations, the kingdoms of Ambroid ruled over vast populations of farmers, laborers, and villagers. The kings claimed divine right, the nobles claimed the land, and the peasants bore the burden of both. Taxes rose, harvests were seized, and soldiers were sent into the countryside whenever the people dared to resist.

Then, in the forgotten villages beyond the great kingdoms, the first peasants began to raise an old and forbidden symbol.

The flag of Kalimord.

Once the banner of a fallen state, its colors had become associated with the horrors of the Wastelands and the brutal regime that had ruled there. But to the peasants of Ambroid, the old flag came to mean something entirely different.

It became a symbol of defiance.

Farmers painted the Kalimordian star upon barns and wagons. Workers stitched the flag into their clothing. Villagers raised it above their homes as soldiers approached. Soon, the banner could be seen across Ambroid—from isolated farming communities to crowded industrial towns.

The kingdoms attempted to suppress the movement. Arrests became common. Villages suspected of harboring rebels were searched and burned. Royal proclamations declared the Kalimordian banner a symbol of treason.

But every flag that was torn down was replaced by another.

What began as scattered acts of resistance eventually became a continent-wide Peasant Revolt.

The rebels had no single army and no unified leadership. Farmers fought alongside miners, laborers, deserters, and impoverished townspeople. Some demanded land reform. Others demanded an end to hereditary rule. Still others simply wanted their families to be free from the taxes and armies of the kingdoms.

Their common symbol was enough.

Kalimord had returned—not as the empire it once was, but as an idea.

As the revolt spread, thousands migrated toward the abandoned territories of the former Wastelands. Once considered uninhabitable, the region had slowly begun to recover. Forests returned to the ruins. Old roads were repaired. Wells were reopened. Communities began rebuilding among the remains of the civilization that had once existed there.

The rebels called the land their refuge.

Then, in the ruins of the old Wastelands, representatives of the liberated settlements gathered and proclaimed the establishment of a new state:

The People's Republic of Kalimord.

It claimed no royal bloodline and recognized no king.

Its founders declared that the land belonged to those who worked it, that government existed to serve the people rather than rule them, and that the old kingdoms had forfeited their right to command the peasantry.

The old Kalimord had been remembered as a nightmare.

The new Kalimord promised to become something else.

For the peasants who had carried its flag across Ambroid, it was not the resurrection of the old regime.

It was the birth of a revolution.

The Reformation of Kalimord and the Rise of the Confederation

Following the Great Peasant Revolt and the establishment of the People's Republic of Kalimord, the former Wastelands entered a turbulent period of reconstruction. Kalimord's revolutionary government rebuilt its cities, repopulated its countryside, and transformed the old rebel movement into a functioning republic.

Yet the revolution did not end at Kalimord's borders.

The new generation of Kalimordian revolutionaries came to believe that Ambroid could never be secure while hostile monarchies and authoritarian states remained in existence. Kalimord therefore began supporting revolutionary movements abroad, secretly supplying sympathetic factions and encouraging uprisings against governments it considered oppressive or hostile.

This policy culminated in the creation of the Confederation of Independent Ambroid States (CIAS). Despite its name, the Confederation was anything but passive. The CIAS developed into a heavily militarized revolutionary alliance dedicated to expanding its influence throughout Ambroid. Its members coordinated military campaigns, sponsored revolutions in enemy states, and launched invasions against governments deemed threats to the Confederation.

At the center of this transformation was Paddy O'Hare, the commander who emerged as the Confederation's dominant military figure. O'Hare argued that independence could only be preserved through strength and that the CIAS had a duty to carry the revolution beyond its own borders.

The Confederation's increasingly aggressive policies eventually brought it into conflict with Ho Chi Fuun, Premier of the Kalimordian Republic. Although Fuun had been instrumental in rebuilding Kalimord after the revolt, his government increasingly opposed the CIAS's attempts to dictate Kalimord's foreign policy.

The confrontation ended dramatically.

In a sudden political coup, Ho Chi Fuun was overthrown by forces loyal to the newly established CIAS under the command of Paddy O'Hare. Kalimord was effectively absorbed into the Confederation's revolutionary military structure, ending the republic's brief period of independent post-revolutionary government.

The coup became one of the defining events of modern Ambroid history. To supporters of the CIAS, O'Hare had prevented Kalimord from abandoning the revolution. To his opponents, he had betrayed the very independence for which the Kalimordian Revolution had originally fought.

From this point onward, the Confederation of Independent Ambroid States ceased to be merely an alliance of revolutionary republics. It became an expansionist power—one that believed the borders of Ambroid were not permanent, and that revolution, rebellion, and war were legitimate instruments for reshaping the continent.

The revolution had begun in Kalimord. Under O'Hare, the CIAS intended to take it everywhere.
